Nashville jeweler Jeanine King speaks at the final Awesome Autumn afternoon
The final Awesome Autumn lecture will be held at the Crater of Diamonds Diamond Discovery Center upper deck on Saturday, October 31st. Jeanine King, owner of Jeanine’s Fine Jewelry in downtown Nashville will present a program called “Crater Gems: From Start to Finish”. Jeanine, who is a Murfreesboro resident and a registered gemologist, has always loved the Crater’s many gems and semi-precious rocks and minerals. Recently, she and her husband put a beautiful uncut 56 pt. lemon yellow diamond into a lovely simple setting
She has also worked with the Crater’s gem-quality agates to make pendants and other pieces of jewelry.
She will be speaking to our visitors and other interested amateur rock workers free of charge at 3:00 PM.
Jeanine will be bringing some of her equipment and roughed out pieces to show the way that the Crater’s rough rocks and gems may be turned into beautiful pieces of jewelry that will become future family heirlooms.
The Crater of Diamonds has recently completed its annual Fall work on the Diamond Search Area. The entire field has been deeply plowed/ripped. In addition, the area of the west drain on the west side of the field has undergone major renovation, with the path of the drain diverted away from the former creek bottom and up on the mine field to the east. Also, the east drain has been filled in to correct some drainage problems that kept the field from being plowed as often this past Spring and Summer. With the two and a half inches of rain that fell last Thursday, in addition to all of the previous rain in October, the mine search area has been more muddy than usual, so visitors should be advised to be prepared for those conditions.
Search area last plowed: October 21, 2009, Total diamonds so far in 2009 - 825
