Crater of Diamonds begins summer season

Park visitors line up to purchase tickets during Memorial Day weekend at Crater of Diamonds State Park.

Greetings from Crater of Diamonds State Park!  With the observance of Memorial Day last weekend, the Crater also began its extended hours for the summer of 2010.  From now until Labor Day, September 6, park visitors will have the chance to search from dawn ‘til dusk for diamonds—from eight a.m. to eight p.m.!

A family views rough diamonds on display in the park's gift shop.

The Crater’s interpretive staff will offer a variety of programs, hikes, and tours in the months to come to satisfy many areas of interest, like diamond mining, geology, history, famous diamonds, and more.  The park will also host several special workshops and event this summer, including the Crater Gem & Mineral Show, John Huddleston Day, and Independence Day Pool Party.  Watch this newspaper or our web site at www.CraterOfDiamondsStatePark.com in the weeks to come for more information about these and other great events.

Miners scour the search area, looking for diamonds on Memorial Day weekend.

In addition, the Kimberlite Café and Diamond Springs Water Park are now open!  Kimberlite Café opens daily from eight a.m. to four p.m., and the Diamond Springs Water Park from noon to six p.m.
Whether you come to hunt for diamonds, attend a program or workshop, eat at the Kimberlite Café, or relax in Diamond Springs, we hope to see you this summer at Crater of Diamonds State Park!
The Diamond Springs Water Park offers the chance for kids and grown-ups to cool off in the summer heat.
