News from the Crater
By Waymon Cox
Merry Christmas from Crater of Diamonds State Park! 2010 has been a great year for Crater diamond finds, including seven gems weighing over two carats each. Next month we’ll have a feature story with photos chronicling each of 2010’s largest finds!
Over the past few days we have seen many holiday travelers visit the Crater in hopes of finding their own big diamonds. Even if hope doesn’t become reality in time for the holiday, you can still give the gift of diamond fever with a 20 admission pass, available in the gift shop. Whether it’s one person visiting 20 times, or 20 people mining at once, it makes a unique gift and a great way to experience the adventure of diamond mining!
If you plan to visit Crater of Diamonds State Park during a holiday break, be aware of adjusted hours of operation coming up. The park will be open from 8 a.m. to noon on Friday, December 24 and will be closed on Christmas Day. The Crater will also be closed on January 1 in observance of New Year’s Day. All other days we will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.!
Many
exciting projects are nearing completion at the Crater of Diamonds, and we will be sharing news of these as they happen over the next few weeks. Until then, we hope all our readers and visitors have safe travels and happy holidays!
