Crater diamond finds make for a successful November

Greetings from Crater of Diamonds State Park! Park staff registered 54 diamonds weighing a total of 15.49 carats in November, making it the most successful month for diamond finds since the spring, and the fourth most successful month this year, after April (89 diamonds registered, weighing 31.79 ct.), May (79 diamonds registered, weighing 16 ct.), and March (62 diamonds registered, weighing 16.71 ct.)!

Cooler temperatures and seven days of significant rainfall in November brought many visitors to the park. In addition to Arkansans, visitors from North Carolina, Missouri, Michigan, Texas, Illinois, and Ohio found diamonds during the month. Not only did the discovery of a 6.67 ct. yellow diamond last month set a record of being the ninth-largest gem ever found at the park, it also made 2011 the fifth consecutive year in which a diamond weighing over two carats has been registered in November. Recent rainfall has washed dirt from the search area, uncovering lots of beautiful rocks and minerals and increasing the chances of someone finding another large diamond before the year is over!
