A fun way to celebrate Mother’s Day
By Margi Jenks
On May 12th, the Saturday of Mother’s Day weekend, the Crater of Diamonds State Park is offering a different way to celebrate! We are hosting a program called “Build a Birdhouse with-or-for Mom”. Our state park standard birdhouse is fun to build and will be a great addition to any yard. During this program the child and their accompanying adult will build the birdhouse from a kit provided by the park. The program includes a presentation on the common birds that are found in southwest Arkansas and the state park. Weather permitting we will take a walk to look and listen for the bluebirds, tufted titmice, and other feathered friends that make their homes in the woods around the Diamond Discover Center.

This program is for “children” of all ages, so you can bring a Mom, or you can accompany a child. The $15 workshop fee covers the cost of the kit and two people’s admission to the workshop. The program runs from 2:00 to 4:00 PM and will be held at the Diamond Discovery Center classroom. We want to be sure that we have enough kits for everyone who attends, so please reserve your space by Saturday, May 5th. Call Waymon or Margi at 870-285-3113 or send an email to margaret.jenks@arkansas.gov. We are looking forward to providing you with a different and fun way to celebrate Spring and your special Mom’s day.
