Come and have fun at the Crater’s Fall Festival!

By Margi Jenks

If you are looking for an event that will be fun for the entire family and not break the family pocketbook, then come to the Crater of Diamonds State Park on Saturday, October 13, 2012.  Beginning at 3 p.m. we will be hosting a family-friendly Fall Festival!  The cost, just $3 per person, pays for a wrist ticket admission to the state park grounds, which will be turned into an old fashioned carnival of fun.

Among the many entertainments will be games for children, like a toilet paper toss, a duck pickup, and a bean bag toss.  Tickets for the games will be [CONTENT].25 each or 5 for $1.00. A dunking booth will provide lots of laughs for young and old, and also let you practice your throwing skills.  We will have musical entertainment throughout the evening.  Food and craft booths will be hosted by local individuals, churches, and organizations as fundraisers.  Best of all we will have five inflatable fun activities, including an 18’ slide, an obstacle course, a bungee run, and a hoops challenge.

At 7:00 PM the hayrides begin and go around our Prospector Trail.  Visitors should bring blankets and flashlights for the hayride.  For more information, contact the Crater of Diamonds State Park at 870-285-3113!  We would love to see you there!

Note:  We received word this morning that Donald Mayes, a longtime diamond searcher, passed away last night, September 23, 2012.  Donald was a fixture at the diamond mine over the past twenty years, as he found over 200 diamonds.  He also always came to the spring Diamond Exhibition at the diamond mine, and loved to show off his diamonds and talk with visitors.  We missed him at this year's Exhibition, but knew that he had been in poor health when he came the previous year.  He will be missed.
