Second Annual Girl Scout Crater Day

We are happy to announce our second annual Girl Scout Crater Day at Crater of Diamonds State Park.  If your daughter or granddaughter is a Junior Girl Scout, her troop will enjoy a fun-filled day at the diamond mine on Saturday, April 13th.  The day begins at 10:00 AM, and we have filled it with activities, lasting until 3:00PM.  Then, each troop can head out onto our search area for two hours to look for their very own diamonds.

The day’s activities will start with one group collecting all of the interesting rocks that our visitors find out on our search area besides diamonds.  The other group will learn about our famous large diamonds and the best ways to look for diamonds.  Then, we will play “rock bingo” for fun and prizes.   After eating their sack lunches in one of our picnic areas, one group will learn about reading maps while the other group enjoys a visit from an early 1900’s diamond prospector portrayed by our park interpreter Waymon Cox.  Then, we will end the day with a map-reading exercise out on the diamond field, followed by popsicles.  Each girl will receive a small gift from the park, as well as a participation badge to wear on her Girl Scout vest.

The cost is $8.00 per person, including troop leaders and parents.  The number of participants, including adults, is limited to a total of 40.  We will be accepting registrations until April 6th.  So, call Margi Jenks or Waymon Cox to reserve your space at 870/285-3113, or send an email to margaret.jenks@arkansas.gov.
