42 January diamonds found at Crater
By Waymon Cox
Greetings from Crater of Diamonds! January was a great start for 2009 at the Crater, with 42 diamonds registered at the Diamond Discovery Center. Largest among these (and the year’s largest, so far) was a 1.20 ct. brown gem, weighed in on the 13th by Chad Johnson of Murfreesboro.
Though just shy of January 2008 totals (56), more than one quarter of the diamonds found last month were registered by folks visiting from outside of Arkansas. With the lower visitation cold winter months usually afford, it’s interesting to note that even now, many visitors travel long distances to visit the Crater!
Spring’s warmer days and bluer skies are just ahead, and with thousands of future diamond miners (and hundreds of future diamond finders!) planning to visit in the months to come, 2009 promises to be a great year for discovering Earth’s true beauty at the Crater!
