“Busy-ness” as usual for June diamond finds at Crater
By Waymon Cox
Greetings from Crater of Diamonds! June was certainly a big month at the park with many programs and events, including our 26th annual John Huddleston Day, and diamond finds remained a constant in the minds of park staff. 96 diamonds traveled home with happy hunters this June, compared with only 58 finds during June of last year. The total number of diamond finds is also on the rise for the year, standing at 567 on June 30, 131 more diamonds than were found by the end of June 2008!
Three of June’s diamonds weighed more than one carat, and visitors from Kansas, California, Pennsylvania, Georgia, North Carolina, Tennessee, and several other states outside of Arkansas found 41 diamonds during the month.
The diverse states and countries of origin for park visitors serve as evidence of the global impact the news media have in telling people about the Crater. As the world continues to visit, we look forward to many more exciting discoveries of diamonds in Arkansas!
