Justin Dorsey Named Park Superintendent For Crater of Diamonds State Park
Justin Dorsey has been selected as the park superintendent for Crater of Diamonds State Park according to State Parks Director Greg Butts. Dorsey has served as superintendent at Davidsonville Historic State Park since 2006, and will be responsible for all operations at the park. Dorsey replaces Tom Stolarz who became Region IV Supervisor for Arkansas State Parks in May 2009. Dorsey assumed his new responsibility July 1st.
“Justin Dorsey is ready to take over management at Crater of Diamonds State Park,” said Greg Butts. “He is a knowledgeable park professional with 7 years experience in Arkansas State Parks system and is the new generation of park superintendents. Justin started his career with Arkansas State Parks as a seasonal park interpreter at Toltec Mounds Archeological State Park in 2002 then began working as a superintendent trainee at Lake Frierson State Park in 2005 and acting park superintendent. Justin’s enthusiasm, leadership, management and supervisory skills, are why he was selected for the position. Under his leadership, Davidsonville Historic State Park received the FY 07 Region III Park of the Year award.”
Butts noted that Dorsey’s extensive training and experience have prepared him for his new position. “Justin is a certified law enforcement officer and First Aid and Responder Instructor, along with certifications in numerous other park related training programs, including completing the Arkansas State Parks Trainee Program.
Dorsey states, “Crater of Diamonds is truly a one of a kind park. It is an honor and privilege to work at such a unique and special place. The parks rich history, geological marvels, and the tradition of excellence established by dedicated park staff make Crater of Diamonds State Park the jewel it is today. My family and I are looking forward to becoming part of the local community as well as the Crater legacy.”
A native of Sardis, Arkansas, Dorsey graduated high school from the Saline County Home Education Association, after which he went on to earn a B.A in History with a minor in Wildlife Management from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock in 2004, and a Technical Degree in Law Enforcement from Southern Arkansas University Tech in 2005.
