Crater of Diamonds to host spring photography workshop on April 7
by Waymon Cox
Greetings from Crater of Diamonds State Park! Spring is one of the best times of year to get outside and take great photographs, and the Crater of Diamonds offers a unique setting that photographers of any skill level can enjoy.
On Saturday, April 7, Crater of Diamonds State Park will host Spring Photography in the Park, a workshop for digital photography enthusiasts. Participants, ages 13 and up, are invited to bring their digital cameras and join Park Interpreter Waymon Cox in the Diamond Discovery Center classroom from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. We’ll discuss camera settings, “rules” of good composition, and how to capture the best photographs during this colorful season! With nice spring weather, we’ll also take a mid-morning photography hike to practice skills learned. Workshop participants may choose their favorite park photo to be exhibited in a springtime photo gallery at the Crater!
Admission for the workshop is $20 per person and may be paid
at the visitor center upon arrival. Space is limited! Call Crater of Diamonds State Park at 870-285-3116 by April 2 to sign up. Join us to learn new skills, share knowledge, meet other photographers, and have fun at
Spring Photography in the Park!
At 2 p.m. this Saturday, March 24, you are also invited to
Visit with an Expert Miner, a free program featuring special guest speaker Shirley Strawn, longtime diamond miner and finder of the perfect
Strawn-Wagner Diamond. Shirley's heritage at the park extends back to her great-great-grandfather, Lee Wagner, who was a guard and longtime manager at one of the commercial diamond mines here during the early 1900s. During this program, Shirley will share many stories of her diamond mining experiences to inspire your own diamond search!
